October 11th 2022
We're inviting all our favourite people to our favourite place for a very special day!
October 11th 2022, Daintree Rainforest
At the edge of the world’s oldest rainforest, where it meets the Coral Sea, is the beautiful Thornton Beach. We’ve chosen this as our ceremony location, to celebrate our love at the intersection between two World Heritage sites.
Nearby, you'll find the 22 acre tropical orchard of Daintree Ice Cream Company. Nestled amongst the fruit trees and alongside a pristine creek, we’ll share some delicious food, drinks and laughs during a night to remember.

Transport

Transport will be provided from your accommodation to the wedding ceremony, from the ceremony to the reception venue, and from the reception to your accommodation at the end of the night. Please advise us on where you will be staying so we can inform the shuttle driver ahead of time. Of course you are more than welcome to drive yourself, but we request that anybody drinking at the reception take the shuttle.

Reception

We’re providing all food and drink at the reception. This will include a free bar, appetizers to start, and a banquet style sit-down dinner. Dinner will include a variety of meat and vegetarian options, but please get in touch if you have any dietary requirements.
The reception will be held at the back of the property under the tall and tangled strangler fig tree. From 5pm we will have access to the entire Daintree Ice Cream Company tropical orchard, so we encourage you to take a self-guided tour to discover the incredible array of exotic fruit trees that grow on the property.

Dress Code

Smart Casual - beach style
Daintree is beautiful and lush - and it got that way through lots of rain and sun! For anyone who hasn’t spent much time in tropical locations, it may feel warm. We want our guests to be comfortable, so we’re not strict on the dress code (especially considering Jake will probably be wearing jandals!). See the “Your Stay” tab for more detail on what to expect of Port Douglas and Daintree weather.
Ladies (or adventurous men), our ceremony is being held on a beach, so please keep that in mind when picking your footwear.

Your Stay

Getting Around

We live near Cairns in far northern Queensland. 1 hour north of Cairns is the popular tourist destination of Port Douglas. Cairns has an international airport, and many transport options to Port Douglas, including shuttles or rental car companies near the airport. The drive from Cairns to Port Douglas is renowned for its beautiful views of the Coral Sea.
Our wedding is being held in Daintree Rainforest, about 45 minutes north of Port Douglas and across the Daintree River by ferry (cost is ~$30 return for a vehicle). You will be welcomed by the oldest rainforest in the world once on the other side. Daintree is off grid, and mobile reception is very patchy north of Daintree River, you may not have internet access while you are there. Also note that the rainforest will feel more humid than Port Douglas, so take that into account when planning your wedding outfit!

Car Hire

If you are staying in accommodation near the main street of Port Douglas (Macrossan street), you likely won’t need a vehicle - restaurants, supermarkets and shops are all within walking distance.
The best part about where we live is that it is surrounded by natural beauty - lush rainforest, crystal clear water holes, perfect beaches and stunning mountains. To make the most of your trip, we recommending hiring a car in Cairns or Port Douglas for at least a day or two to explore.

Weather

October is beautiful in far north Queensland - if you like warm weather! You can expect the temperature to be 27 - 28ºC with ~65% humidity during the day. It will cool off a bit at night (min temp of about 20ºC), or if you are near the ocean where there is often a bit of a breeze. October is considered dry season, so rain isn’t expected (but that doesn’t mean it won’t!). October is also one of the best times of the year to see the Great Barrier Reef - it’s generally sunny and not very windy, and the water clarity is still very high. More information on Port Douglas weather can be found here, and check out Activities for more information on tours we recommend while you’re here.

FAQ

Will everything try to kill me?

Despite what you’ve probably heard, Australia is a safe place to live and explore, as long as you follow a few key rules!
• Late October to November we start entering “stinger season”, which essentially means the ocean becomes warm enough that there are dangerous jellyfish and related plankton in the water that can sting you. A good rule of thumb is to check if there are stinger nets in the water at the beach (in front of the lifeguard towers). We'll check the week before guests arrive and update everyone.
• It is very important that you stay out of the ocean in Daintree Rainforest - there are crocodiles that live there, and it is never safe to swim at the beach north of the Daintree River. If you want to swim in Daintree, there are several beautiful freshwater creeks that are safe to swim in.

How can I avoid fighting off crowds of children?

School holidays end the week before our wedding for all states except Tasmania. It will be much quieter after our wedding compared to before, so we recommend if you are interested in staying a week or two that you plan to stay after the wedding.
Ask us questions, frequently, and we'll add them here.
